RIBBON SUITING
Ribbon Suiting Project is sponsored by Mokuba New York LLC. This project is to question the purpose of ribbons. Lee chose the folk inspired ribbons as material because he is fascinating by how the digital programming jacquard technique functioned not only as creating beautiful patterns from the front side of ribbons but also serving the pure visual aesthetic function at the back side. Lee carefully positioned each ribbon to create the digital-print-like ultra embroidery textile and combined it with tailoring technique to create this unique glitchy looking suit.
Shih Hsun Lee is a menswear designer based in New York City. Lee earned his MFA degree in Fashion Design and Society at Parsons New School of Design in 2015. He worked as a tailor apprentice at both bespoke and made-to-measure tailor shops in the past and is now a tailor at Martin Greenfield Clothiers. Lee’s design focuses on bringing contemporary elements and textiles into classic men’s tailoring.
His work has been shown at New York Fashion Week and Shanghai World Expo, and also featured on online magazines such as fuckingyoung! and 1Granary . Lee is now a resident of Brooklyn, New York, where he continues his practice in men's tailoring.
