MFA FASHION DESIGN AND SOCIETY

Katherine Mavridis is an Australian knitwear designer based in New York City. Shortly after completing her undergraduate fashion and textile design studies at the University of Technology Sydney, Mavridis was awarded a scholarship in recognition of her design talent to attend the MFA Fashion Design and Society at Parsons, New York City.

As a knitwear specialist, Mavridis produced an extensive knit portfolio during her time in the MFA program and went on to develop a technique of coiling chord into fully-fashioned three-dimensional seamless sculptural garments; construction of these pieces stemming from knitwear shaping techniques. As a designer, Mavridis works with a dual process of collage and sculpting while focusing on, form and texture to create visual meaning.

Soon after showing her MFA graduate collection at Milk Studios in September 2015, Mavridis’ pieces were quickly picked up by avant-garde retailer Dover Street Market NY. Mavridis’ work is currently being sold at Dover Street Market New York, amongst some of the worlds most esteemed labels.
